The first market was held in Eccleshall on Saturday April 22nd 2006 in the coaching arch of The Royal Oak public house in Eccleshall High Street. A farmers' market is one where producers themselves attend to sell items that they have made or raised from the local area. In the case of Eccleshall preference is given to producers from within ten miles of the town. Producers and farmers may attend from up to thirty miles away, where there is no consistent more local producer

The market was set up to support the local rural economy and provide an opportunity for local residents to buy fresh seasonal goods. The market is fully insured and traders are checked by the Borough Council’s Environmental Health Department.

Feedback on the first market has been very positive. There will be occasional stalls selling fruit and vegetables, for example, as well as a core of stalls selling meat, cakes, eggs, cheese. preserves, wine and beer. The committee was very pleased with the success of the first market and continues to work hard to improve and advertise it. The market will be held every fourth Saturday (except December) from 9a.m. to 1p.m.
