ECCLESHALL COMMUNITY CENTRE

SHAWS LANE, ECCLESHALL

Eccleshall Community Centre, the former Middle School, was purchased by Eccleshall Parish Council in 1993 for community use. The Centre is leased long term to the Eccleshall Community Centre Association for day to day management.

The excellent facilities include several rooms suitable for meetings and various activities,  There is a well equipped, recently refurbished kitchen and a large hall with stage for dances, parties and drama productions.

Eccleshall pre-school occupies part of the premises and the Day Centre meets three days a week.

The Community Centre Association consists of a group of volunteers and representatives from various user groups, who ensure that the centre runs smoothly. At the Annual General Meeting held on May 22nd 2007 the following Officers were elected - Mr. Gordon Dale  Chairman, Mr. George Simkin - Vice-Chair, Mrs. Sheena Simkin - Treasurer and Mrs. Christine Heelis - Secretary.

The Chairman reported that bookings remained excellent. Maintenance works carried out during the previous twelve months included the the car park resurfacing, new curtains to the stage, redecoration of the Jubilee Room and the kitchen boiler had been overhauled. Problems with the flat roof to the Pre-School had been addressed and the decoration of the main hall and annexe ordered.

The replacement of the carpet in the Jubilee Room was still under consideration and a new basin was to be installed shortly in the disabled toilet.  A handrail was to be fitted to the steps either side of the stage.

The following events are held regularly at the Community Centre - Bowls, Ballet, Day Centre, Pre-School,  Weight Watchers, Badminton. Pilates and Kung Fu.

There are monthly meetings of the Historical Society and Eccleshall Wives and a monthly Country and Western night.

Educational classes held include Upholstery, Ornithology, and Yoga. Unfortunately, Spanish, French had been discontinued due to insufficient numbers.

Other events held at the centre include Blood Donor sessions and 'Flu jabs. Textile and craft, Umpah night, Children's parties, Private discos, Wedding reception, Katherine House Fund Raising, Cricket Club, Holy Trinity Church, Eccleshall Singers, Birthday Parties, Wedding Anniversaries, Band Practice, Elections, Allotments, Public Meetings, Eccleshall Show Committee, Eccleshall Scouts, Enterprise UK (Gas), Age Concern, Drama and many more.

The Centre is well used and very popular to avoid disappointment bookings need to be made well in advance. Events are already booked for 2008.
